How to do anything in Guest Charge.
Step-by-step guides for hosts and guests. Looking for a quick answer instead? Try the FAQs — and if you’re an account holder with a problem, the in-app Support page gets you a tracked ticket.
Getting started
From signup to a connected charger.
Create your account
Register at app.guest-charge.com/register with your email — you’ll get a verification email to activate. The Free plan needs no card and includes one charger.
Add your location
Create a location for your property (address lookup included). Chargers and sessions hang off locations, and Enterprise reporting breaks down by them.
Connect your charger
Add the charger in My Chargers and follow the guided setup: you’ll point the charger’s OCPP settings at our server address with the identity we give you. Works with OCPP 1.6 and 2.0.1 — the wizard verifies the connection live.
Create your first session
A session is one guest’s stay: name, dates, charger(s), and optionally their email and a price. Generate the access URL and you’re operating.
Guest access
Getting the link into the guest’s hands.
Send the welcome email (with QR code)
From the session’s URL dialog, click Email welcome. If the session has the guest’s email it sends immediately — a branded email with their button link and a scannable QR code. If not, you’ll be asked for the address right there; it’s saved to the session for next time.
Send it by text or Airbnb message instead
Click Copy welcome + QR in the same dialog. Paste into any messaging app for clean text with the link; paste into an email client and the QR image comes along too.
Print a QR poster for the charger
On My Chargers, open the QR poster for a charger and print it (one page). The poster identifies the charger — it contains no guest information. A guest who has opened their personal link on their phone can then just scan the poster at the charger to start; scanning also auto-selects that charger at multi-charger properties. You can include or omit the charger’s location line with the tick before printing.
Multi-charger properties
Assign several chargers to one session and the guest picks a bay when they arrive — or scans the poster on the bay they parked at, which selects it for them. While a charge is live the selection is pinned; once it finishes, the next visit asks again.
When links expire
Access ends at checkout automatically. If a stay is extended, edit the session dates and the same link keeps working; if a link is compromised, regenerate the URL and the old one dies instantly.
Scheduling
Windows, stays and automatic calendars.
Stay-based scheduling (the default)
Every session has check-in and check-out dates and times. Outside them, the guest’s link politely refuses. You never switch anything on or off manually.
Recurring availability windows (per charger)
In the charger’s settings, add availability windows — days of the week plus start and end times (overnight windows that cross midnight are fine). The charger only operates inside them, whatever the session says. Use it for “weekends only” or “never during business hours” rules.
Nightly charging windows (per stay)
On a session, set a daily charging window — e.g. 10pm–7am — to keep charging in off-peak hours. Guests see the hours on their page and get a friendly message outside them.
Airbnb calendar sync
In Account Settings → Calendar Sync, paste your Airbnb calendar (.ics) link and choose the charger(s). Bookings become sessions automatically — named “Airbnb guest #1, #2…” since Airbnb calendars don’t include guest details — and it re-syncs hourly. Moved bookings update; cancelled ones clean up. Sessions you’ve edited by hand, started, or that have payment activity are never touched. Add the guest’s real name or email any time to personalise the welcome email.
Manual override
Hosts can always start or stop a charger directly from the dashboard, regardless of windows and schedules. Overrides are time-limited so a forgotten override can’t leave the charger open forever.
Payments
Charging for charging.
Set a price on a session
When creating or editing a session, enable payment and choose a model:
- Per stay — one fixed price, unlimited charging until checkout. The guest pays up front.
- Per kWh — the guest saves a card up front and is charged once at checkout for exactly the energy used, with a minimum charge you set (there’s a small floor to cover processing).
Prices are in your currency (USD, AUD, EUR or GBP), tax-inclusive. Requires the Pay-As-You-Go plan or above.
What the guest experiences
Their page shows the price before anything happens. Payment runs through secure hosted checkout — cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay — and the charger stays locked until it completes. Per-kWh guests see their running cost live while charging. A branded receipt is emailed automatically when money moves.
Price lock
Once a guest has paid or saved a card, the session’s price can’t be changed — edits to dates and details still work, but the money terms are locked. This protects the guest and you.
Commission
Pay-As-You-Go: 15% of charging revenue, deducted automatically — you keep 85%. Pro and Enterprise: 0%. Every transaction’s split is visible in your reporting.
Payouts & reporting
Your money and your numbers.
Set up payouts (once)
On the Insights page, click Set up payouts and complete the short hosted verification form — identity and bank details. There’s no separate payment-provider account or dashboard to manage. Until you’ve done this, your earnings queue up safely and the banner shows what’s waiting.
When transfers happen
Automatically, after each paid stay or per-kWh settlement. An hourly sweep also catches anything pending — including the backlog from before you connected your bank. Your Insights page shows paid and owed totals per currency.
The Insights page
Insights (main navigation) covers usage for everyone, plus — depending on plan — revenue/commission/net per currency, charts, an hour-by-weekday activity heatmap, profit after your electricity tariff, and CO₂-avoided estimates. Reporting depth by plan: Free = usage & environmental; Pay-As-You-Go adds money views and CSV export; Pro adds the heatmap, profit and the financial-year report; Enterprise adds per-location breakdowns.
Financial-year report & statements
Pro and Enterprise hosts get a printable FY report with country presets (AU, UK, NZ, US, CA or custom dates) — print it or email it to yourself from the report view. Monthly statements with revenue, commission and net are emailed automatically on paid plans.
Upgrade, downgrade, cancel
Account Settings → Subscription: upgrade to Pro ($19/month, 0% commission) self-serve by card, and manage or cancel billing from the same place. Cancelling moves you to Pay-As-You-Go — nothing else changes. Enterprise is arranged with us directly.
For guests
Charging during your stay.
Starting a charge
- Open the personal charging link your host sent (email, text or booking message). No app, no account.
- If payment is required, pay first — card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.
- At a multi-charger property, pick the charger you parked at (or scan the QR poster on it).
- Plug in and press Start Charging.
Scanning the QR poster
If you’ve opened your link on your phone before, scanning the poster at the charger takes you straight to your session with that charger selected. If you haven’t, the page tells you to open your link first — then scan again.
Watching and stopping the charge
Your page shows live power, energy delivered and — for per-kWh stays — cost so far, tax included. Stop any time from the same page, or just unplug when your car is done.
Payments and receipts
Prices are set by your host in their currency; your bank converts like any purchase abroad. Per-stay prices are one payment up front; per-kWh stays charge your saved card once at checkout for the energy used. A receipt is emailed automatically either way.
Something’s not working
- Link says it’s outside charging hours — your host has set allowed hours; they’re shown on the page.
- Link expired — access ends at checkout; contact your host if your stay changed.
- Charger won’t start — make sure the cable is firmly plugged in first, then press Start Charging. Still stuck? Your host can restart it remotely.
- Anything else — your host is your first contact; they have direct support from us.
Troubleshooting for hosts
The four most common snags.
Charger shows as offline / not connected
Check the charger has internet (most drop OCPP silently when Wi-Fi hiccups) — once it reconnects, the status comes back on its own, and the refresh icon next to the Online/Offline badge in My Chargers re-checks it on the spot. If it has never connected, re-check the OCPP server URL and username in the charger’s own settings — they must match what Guest Charge issued during setup exactly. Lost the OCPP password? It’s only shown once, so use Generate a new OCPP password on the charger in My Chargers and enter the new one into the charger. Our Supported Chargers page has model-specific notes.
Guest says the link doesn’t work
Open the session in your dashboard and check: are today’s date/time inside the stay? Is a payment still pending (the page will say so)? Is a nightly window closing access right now? Regenerating the URL fixes a mangled link in seconds.
Payment succeeded but charging didn’t unlock
The unlock is usually instant. If not, the guest’s page re-checks payment automatically when it refreshes — have them reload once. Persistent cases: check the session’s payment status in your dashboard, then raise an in-app support ticket and we’ll trace the payment.
A charge won’t stop / charger is stuck
Use the host controls to stop the session remotely. If the charger itself is wedged, a remote restart from the charger’s page usually clears it — physical power-cycling is the last resort, not the first.
Still stuck? We’re on it.
Account holders: raise a ticket from the in-app Support page (account menu → Support) — it’s tracked to resolution and pings us immediately. Not signed up yet? Use the contact form.
